Job done

One of my aims for this holiday was to rid the rest of the house of the house of the tired yellow paint we inherited. Here's a picture for you so you can truly appreciate it's, well, yellowness.

As well as yellowness, we also inherited a ceiling that looked like it had only had one coat and sections that had been patched up using gloss paint. Here's a tip for any keen DIYers out there - if you need to patch up the paint on your ceiling and you don't have any ceiling paint, gloss is NOT your second best option.

It is amazing though, what a new coat of paint can do for a room, even painting the ceiling gave the space a lift. And with the help of mum and one of her friends the whole job took only 2 days. The colour we used is called "Milk Cloud" and is the same as the trim on the rest of the house. It looks a lot whiter on the trim than on the walls where it looks more beige.

Sure, you can still tell that a wall was removed at some stage and that the plasterwork in that spot is not fantastic but as it's no longer highlighted in gloss paint your eye isn't drawn directly to it. The new colour doesn't clash with the kitchen tiles like the yellow did (put that yellow next to some light pink. Uh huh, not great). But I think the best thing is that it just looks like it's been painted properly.
