We are actually going to be married!!

Heard this week that the Pastor from A's hometown can (and will) marry us. Woo Hoo. Now we wont have to do this....

By the way, A did survive the ride yesterday.

It took 9 hours!

Rainy Saturday

I'm loving the sound of the rain this morning, it's relaxing today. 4 weeks ago it would have been stressful. A couple of months ago we got someone around to give us a quote to sand and polish our floorboards (which like most things in the house had been DIYed averagely by owners past). He took one look at them and said "I'd love to say I could do them next week but...." and went on to explain that the ground under the house is damp and this is causing the floorboards to curl up a bit at the sides. We could sand them flat but the same thing would happen again. We'd need to do something about the drainage to stop the rainwater run-off resurfacing under the house. Back to the drawing board...

So a couple of weekends hard labour (harder for A than me), a bloke with a trencher, a long piece of ag pipe and a pile of gravel later we now have a drain around the front of the house that *should* fix the problem. We won't know for 3 - 6 months if it has worked but there's no water sitting along the front of the house today so it must be going somewhere.

So today I can enjoy the sound of the rain, the cat on my knee and think about A who is out doing a 100km mountain bike ride. In the rain.

Storage drawers - Part 2

After stripping, sanding, staining and putting wheels onto the draws I decided the inside of the drawers needed a bit of love.

Not having a sewing machine I used an iron...

... and some stick on velcro

Et voila!

And in action here

Total cost - $22 a drawer
Drawers - $20
Stain - $39 but I only used 1/4 of the tin and the rest will be used on the bedside tables
Wheels - $35
Material - $20 with some left over (to line bedside table maybe?)
Paint thinner, sandpaper, paintbrush etc were left over from other painting projects.

Yay!

Can I say it?

Please???

6 weeks until the next holidays!!

Billy Button bouquets

Mum and dad came to visit on the weekend. I hadn't seen them since January so it was really lovely. We went out to the Comedy Festival Roadshow - so funny that I cried at one point! Other than that we relaxed and enjoyed the sunshine.

Our 'save the dates' arrived on Saturday so I gave a stack to mum and dad to distribute. Perfect timing as I wasn't expecting them until today. We ended up getting a simple design printed by Vista Print (100 free postcard offer - yippee) so we paid $28 for the postage and to upload our own design. They are nice and glossy and the colours looked like we expected so very happy with the budget option. The stamps will cost more than the postcards!

We also got to talking about flowers. I told Mum about my newfound love of Billy Buttons and while we don't think they'll be flowering in November we're going to try and find some dried ones to use. Apparently mum's nana used to love them too so it's a nice link back to her family. Whenever she went off fishing and spotted some she'd pick mum and her sisters a bunch.

We're planning to get most of the flowers from a flower farm about half an hour away from my parents and make up the bouquets ourselves. I'm liking the really relaxed, hand-tied style and am hoping that with the help of youtube tutorials and a couple of practise runs we'll be right!

Here are some inspiration pics...

So bright and cheery!

A new addition

Last week A sent me an email about an add he'd seen on his work classifieds. Free to a good home. How could you say no to this little face?

So welcome Axel. You are very cute, a little crazy, but very cute!
